Oral Lesions with immunohistochemical evidence of Sars‐CoV‐2 in swab‐negative Post‐COVID Syndrome

The article discusses the growing evidence of Post-COVID syndrome, which can affect various organs and systems and persist for more than 12 weeks after the initial infection. The study presents observations of six patients who recovered from COVID-19 but developed oral mucosa lesions (mainly ulcers) that persisted for up to 20 days. The findings suggest that SARS-CoV-2 can persist in the oral mucosa after the acute phase, causing lesions that may be considered the oral mucosa counterpart of post-COVID syndrome. The study utilized histological investigation and spike-protein evaluation by immunohistochemistry to detect weak epithelial SARS-CoV-2 positivity limited to the basal/spinosum layers.
