Orbital resection by intranasal technique (ORBIT): A new classification system for reporting endoscopically resectable primary benign orbital tumors

The study proposes a new classification system, called the Orbital Resection by Intranasal Technique (ORBIT) classification system, to predict surgical outcomes of primary benign orbital tumors (PBOTs). The study analyzed 110 PBOTs from 11 international centers and found that higher ORBIT class was associated with a lower likelihood of gross total resection (GTR). Tumors resected using a combined approach tended to be larger and have an immediate postoperative cranial nerve palsy, while an exclusively endoscopic approach resulted in a higher likelihood of GTR. The study concludes that the ORBIT classification system effectively facilitates high-quality outcomes reporting for all PBOTs. Endoscopic treatment of PBOTs is an effective approach with favorable outcomes and low adverse events.
