Outcome and complication comparison for intramedullary nail versus open reduction internal fixation in humeral diaphyseal fractures for 2800 matched patient pairs utilizing the Nationwide Readmissions Database

This study compared outcomes of intramedullary nail fixation (IMN) and open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) for humeral diaphyseal fractures. Data from 2,804 matched pairs of patients showed that ORIF had a higher risk of revision surgery and complications overall. However, for patients aged 60 and above, ORIF was associated with significantly higher odds of complications and revisions compared to IMN.
