Outcome‐based comparative analysis of five fetal growth velocity models to define slow growth

The objective of this study was to assess the effectiveness of different models used to identify slow fetal growth and its association with stillbirth risk. The study analyzed a dataset of pregnancies with multiple third-trimester ultrasound scans to estimate fetal weight. Slow growth was defined using five different models, and small-for-gestational age (SGA) was also considered. The results showed that the model based on the projected optimal weight range (POWR) identified non-SGA fetuses with slow growth that had a higher risk of stillbirth. Other models had limitations, such as assuming linear growth or not reflecting actual weight differences. The study highlights the importance of using appropriate models to identify fetal growth problems and associated risks.
