Over 30 percent dengue seroprevalence among Kerala's children, Lancet study finds

A Lancet Regional Health study reveals a dengue seroprevalence of 30.9% among 9-12-year-olds and 24.6% in 5-8-year-olds in Kerala, categorizing it as low to moderate. With 5,236 participants, the research highlights regional variations, emphasizing the importance of targeted preventive measures. Urban areas and lower socio-economic groups show higher prevalence, with boys having significantly elevated rates. The study indicates a hyperendemic situation in Kerala with all four dengue serotypes circulating. Undetected cases, comprising 89%, underscore the need to reevaluate control and prevention strategies for dengue transmission.
