A study of 50 preterm infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) compared higher (≥96%) and lower (90–94%) oxygen saturation (SpO₂) targets. Over approximately 19 weeks, no significant differences were found in intermittent hypoxemia (IH) events or time spent with SpO₂ <80%. However, infants in the lower target group experienced more IH events before 48 weeks postmenstrual age and were discharged later (median 48.0 vs. 45.0 weeks; P=0.05).
