This study explores how parental playfulness mediates the link between maternal emotional difficulties and children's psychosocial adjustment. Surveying 197 mothers of 3-8-year-olds reveals that higher maternal emotional distress correlates with lower parental playfulness, impacting children's behaviour and emotions. Playfulness also influences how mothers react to children's negative emotions, suggesting potential for parenting interventions.
