This study aimed to quantify and compare the loading levels in the patellofemoral joint during various weightbearing rehabilitation exercises and daily activities. The researchers used motion capture and ground-reaction force data to estimate knee flexion angles and extension moments in healthy participants performing each exercise. A loading index was computed for each exercise, taking into account loading peak and cumulative loading impulse. The results showed significant variation in patellofemoral loading levels across the exercises and activities, with most rehabilitation exercises generating a moderate level of loading. The findings provide clinicians with valuable information for designing patient-specific exercise programs to rehabilitate patellofemoral pain.
