This review analyzed the best available evidence on patient navigation across the cancer continuum. Systematic reviews and primary studies were identified from various databases and literature sources. Out of 2062 records, 61 systematic reviews and 53 primary studies were included. The findings indicate that patient navigation effectively improves cancer screening participation, reduces time to diagnosis and treatment initiation, enhances the quality of life and patient satisfaction in survivorship, and reduces hospital readmissions. Limited data were available on palliative care, while economic evaluations suggest the cost-effectiveness of navigation in screening programs.
