Percutaneous Endoscopic Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion Outperforms MPLI Fusion in the lumbar degeneration Prevention

A retrospective study spanning March 2019 to January 2022 compared percutaneous endoscopic posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PE-PLIF) and modified posterior lumbar interbody fusion (MPLIF) for treating lumbar degenerative disease (LDD). Analyzing data from 37 PE-PLIF and 58 MPLIF patients, results showed PE-PLIF had a longer operation time but significantly less blood loss, shorter post-operative hospitalization, and bedrest times. PE-PLIF exhibited superior pain relief and functional outcomes, making it a promising alternative for single-segment LDD treatment. Both surgeries were deemed clinically effective and safe, with PE-PLIF showing potential advantages.
