This study examined the relationship between switching patterns and adherence/persistence in Danish patients over the age of 65 who initiated glaucoma treatment with latanoprost eye drops. The patients were divided into three cohorts: switchers, non-switchers, and users of preservative-free latanoprost (Monoprost®). The results showed that non-switchers had lower adherence than switchers and Monoprost® users. Switchers had a 53% lower risk of discontinuing treatment within one year than non-switchers, and Monoprost® users had a 78% lower risk. These findings suggest that both switching between different latanoprost formulations and using preservative-free latanoprost can improve adherence and persistence in treatment.
