PGAM5 activates NF-κB pathway, promoting M1 macrophage polarization in COPD

This study investigates the role of phosphoglycerate mutase 5 (PGAM5) in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) progression. PGAM5 was found to stimulate M1 macrophage polarization and increase proinflammatory factors such as IL-1β and TNF-α. The activation of the NF-κB pathway via apoptotic signaling-regulated kinase 1 (ASK1) was implicated in this process. Silencing PGAM5 reversed these effects, suggesting PGAM5 as a potential target for COPD treatment.
