PM2.5 Components and Asthma Admissions: Gender, Age, and Seasons

Short-term exposure to PM2.5 and its components (NO3−, NH4+, SO42−) increases asthma hospitalization risk, especially in women, elderly individuals (≥65 years), and during cold seasons. A study in Shanghai (2018–2022) found a significant correlation between a 10 μg/m³ increase in PM2.5 components and asthma admissions, highlighting the need to address air pollution for asthma prevention and management in vulnerable groups.
