PNPLA8 Identified as Key Regulator in Triple-Negative Breast Cancer, Offering New Treatment Avenues

In the quest for improved triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) treatments, the study conducted genomic, functional, and lipidomic analyses on TNBC cells and patient samples. The study unveiled a reprogramming of phospholipid metabolism in TNBC, with heightened expression of patatin-like phospholipase domain-containing lipase 8 (PNPLA8). Silencing PNPLA8 disrupted phospholipid profiles, influencing cell viability, migration, antioxidation, and signalling pathways. The findings position PNPLA8 as a pivotal regulator in TNBC, suggesting its potential as a novel molecular treatment target to enhance therapeutic options for this aggressive breast cancer subtype.
