A literature review examined the correlation between air pollution and keratoconus prevalence, focusing on particulate matter (PM2.5, PM10) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2). Data from World Health Organization (WHO) databases were analyzed and compared with epidemiological studies. The mean pollution rates were 26.88 μg/m³ for PM2.5, 58.23 μg/m³ for PM10, and 24.79 μg/m³ for NO2. Significant positive correlations were found between keratoconus prevalence and levels of PM2.5 (R = 0.58, p < 0.001), PM10 (R = 0.67, p < 0.001), and NO2 (R = 0.64, p = 0.00016). The study suggests that fine particles may exacerbate risk factors such as atopy and eye rubbing, or directly affect corneal integrity by increasing cell apoptosis.

The paste maintained about 75% metabolic activity and better preserved cell viability, supporting further investigation as a medicament for regenerative endodontic procedures.

As a single-arm study, the findings are descriptive and require controlled confirmation.
