Porphyromonas gingivalis: A periodontal pathogen

Porphyromonas gingivalis (P.g.), a periodontal pathogen, inhibits autophagy and may contribute to cardiac dysfunction after MI. This study demonstrates that P.g. impairs autophagy by cleaving a protein called VAMP8, increasing susceptibility to cardiac rupture. Restoring autophagy activation could mitigate these effects, shedding light on the connection between PD and MI.
