Post-Surgery Depression and Anxiety Linked to Key Risk Factors

In a prospective study involving 371 patients undergoing orthognathic surgery, depression was observed in 32% and anxiety in 72.8% within five days post-surgery. Preoperative depression scores and intraoperative urine output were significantly associated with increased depression risk, while preoperative anxiety, postoperative pain, nausea, vomiting, and insomnia were linked to heightened anxiety risk. A monthly income ≥ ¥10000 was associated with lower anxiety risk. The study concluded that preoperative psychological status and postoperative complications play critical roles in postoperative mental health. Early psychological assessment and targeted management could improve recovery outcomes in orthognathic surgery patients.
