Post-traumatic growth of Afghan adolescents after traumatic loss of father

This study examined the post-traumatic growth of Afghan adolescents following the traumatic loss of a father. The study included 14 male and female participants who met the required criteria. Data was collected through interviews and analyzed using the Colaizzi analysis method. Two main themes emerged from the analysis: moving forward with hope and factors associated with enhancing hope. The findings indicated that Afghan adolescents who experienced trauma were able to achieve post-traumatic growth over time. Factors such as social support, psychological and cognitive factors, and spiritual well-being were identified as important in enhancing hopefulness. The study suggests that schools and non-governmental organizations in Afghanistan should provide accessible opportunities to support post-traumatic growth in bereaved adolescents.
