The study investigated the effects of using a new range of heat and moisture exchanger devices on post-laryngectomy pulmonary symptoms and related issues. In the first phase, participants transitioned to equivalent new devices, and in the second phase, they used the full range of HMEs to achieve an optimal day/night regimen. Results showed improvements in cough symptoms, sputum symptoms, HME use, sleep, and other related factors. The new HME range supported better HME use and brought about pulmonary and symptom benefits.
