Postoperative Urinary Retention Following General Anesthesia for Endoscopic Nasal Surgery

A new study has found that men over 60 who undergo endoscopic nasal surgery with general anesthesia are more likely to experience urinary retention, especially if they have a history of prostate problems. The study, which followed 253 patients, found that 16% of them had difficulty urinating after surgery. Those with a history of benign prostatic hyperplasia or lower urinary tract symptoms were nearly four times more likely to have the problem. The researchers say their findings highlight the importance of considering a patient's urological history before surgery and taking steps to prevent urinary retention.
