Potential therapy for esophageal cancer found in noncoding RNA

The study aimed to identify long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) open reading frames (ORFs) with peptide-coding abilities in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). The researchers identified six lncRNA ORFs, including KDM4A-AS1 ORF, using a combination of techniques. They found that the KDM4A-AS1 ORF-encoded peptide decreased ESCC cell viability and migratory ability, inhibited fatty acid metabolism, and increased oxidative stress. The study provides novel identification strategies for lncRNA-encoded peptides and sheds light on the potential role of KDM4A-AS1 ORF-encoded peptide in ESCC.
