Predicting acute brain lesions on magnetic resonance imaging in acute carbon monoxide poisoning

A study involving 1,034 patients with acute carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning aimed to identify predictors of acute brain lesions (ABLs) on MRI, known as a strong indicator for delayed neuropsychiatric syndrome (DNS). Multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed that loss of consciousness, low Glasgow Coma Scale score, elevated troponin-I, longer CO exposure, and higher white blood cell count were independent predictors of ABLs. These factors can assist clinicians in deciding the necessity of MRI scans or transfer for hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
