Predicting the need for prophylactic gastrostomy in major head and neck cancer surgery: The PEG score

This study on 424 head and neck surgery patients aimed to predict the necessity of enteral nutrition at 28 days postoperatively. A PEG score, incorporating five preoperative variables (body mass index, previous radiotherapy, preoperative dysphagia, type of surgery, flap reconstruction), demonstrated high accuracy (0.74), F1 score (0.83), and AUC (0.74), offering potential for personalized nutrition protocols.
