Severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) has a high mortality rate, and the role of adipokines in its development is debated. A meta-analysis of 15 studies involving 1332 acute pancreatitis patients explored the association of inflammatory adipokines with SAP. Results revealed significantly higher serum resistin levels in SAP patients (SMD = 0.78). However, no significant differences were found in leptin, adiponectin, and visfatin levels between SAP and mild acute pancreatitis (MAP) patients. The study suggests resistin as a potential biomarker for SAP and a promising therapeutic target, highlighting its association with the condition.
