Both fractures occurred during the osseointegration period before the second reconstruction procedure, likely due to the thinner cortex in the distal segment. Harvesting the fractured fibula flap was challenging due to callus formation and fibrosis, yet successful. Despite the fractures, the transplants remained functional post-surgery, emphasizing the adequacy of vascularization for the flap transfer. Patients are advised about potential corrective surgeries.

A multicentre US study of 305 older adults undergoing advanced heart failure therapy found that health-related quality of life improved after heart transplantation and long-term mechanical circulatory support.
