Prehospital Thoracotomy Improves Survival in Traumatic Cardiac Arrest

Prehospital resuscitative thoracotomy improves survival in traumatic cardiac arrest (TCA), especially in cardiac tamponade cases when performed within 10 minutes. Of 601 patients, 30 (5%) survived, with 76.6% having favorable neurological outcomes. The technique was less effective for exsanguination-induced TCA.
