The study was conducted to determine the prevalence of refractive error, particularly myopia, and associated risk factors in children and young adults in the urban region of Hyderabad, South India. The study enrolled 4,065 participants aged 6-22 years and used cycloplegic autorefraction to determine refractive error. Results showed that 29.8% of participants had myopia, with a strong correlation between age and prevalence of myopia. Schools of the low socio-economic category had a higher prevalence of myopia compared to those of mid socio-economic category. The study concluded that myopia was the most prevalent refractive error and increased with age in the urban population.
