Prevalence and risk factors of emergence agitation among pediatric patients undergo ophthalmic and ENT Surgery

The study investigated emergence agitation (EA) in pediatric patients undergoing ophthalmic or ENT surgery, identifying its prevalence and associated risk factors. Among 100 children analyzed, EA occurred in 30%, with higher rates in ENT (34.5%) than in ophthalmic surgery (24.4%). High preoperative anxiety and postoperative pain were identified as significant risk factors for EA. The findings emphasized the importance of preoperative anxiety assessment and management, along with postoperative pain control, in mitigating EA risks and improving the overall care of pediatric patients undergoing these surgeries.
