The study investigated the prevalence and risk factors of Phantom Limb Pain (PLP) among amputees in African populations, an area with limited research on this topic. The study conducted telephone surveys with amputees in Western and Eastern Cape Provinces. Results showed a high PLP prevalence of 71.73%, with pre-operative pain and residual limb pain identified as risk factors. Effective treatments targeting pre-amputation pain could improve post-amputation quality of life.
