Prevalence of mental disorders among Norwegian college and university students

A recent study conducted in Norway using a self-administered electronic psychiatric diagnostic survey revealed mental health issues among college and university students. The survey, conducted in early 2023, involved 10,460 participants aged 18-35. Results showed a high prevalence of current mental disorders among female (39.7%) and male (25.7%) students, with major depressive episodes and generalized anxiety disorders being the most common. Additionally, alcohol use disorders were identified in a notable percentage of students. These findings raise alarms about the mental health challenges faced by Norwegian higher education students.
