A recent study examined the prevalence of peri-implantitis (PI) after alveolar ridge preservation (ARP) in patients with periodontitis. The study involved 138 dental implants in 113 patients, with extraction reasons categorized as periodontitis or nonperiodontitis. The results showed an overall PI prevalence of 24.6%, with implant sites and types significantly associated with PI. However, the reason for dental extraction (periodontitis or nonperiodontitis) did not have a significant association with PI. The study suggests that ARP can help reduce the occurrence of periodontitis-related PI, but further randomized controlled trials are needed.
