A recent study delved into the management of platinum-induced ototoxicity in adult cancer patients, revealing limited benefits from existing interventions. The study analyzed nineteen randomized controlled trials and five quasi-experimental studies encompassing 1673 patients. The results showed mild efficacy of certain pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies such as sodium thiosulphate, corticoids, sertraline, statins, multivitamins, and D-methionine in preventing cisplatin-induced ototoxicity. However, a scarcity of high-quality research emphasized the necessity for comprehensive evaluations of potential symptoms and innovative treatment approaches.
