Primary Stability and Bone Contact Loading Evaluation of Suture and Screw based Coracoid Graft Fixation for Anterior Glenoid Bone Loss

A study in the American Journal of Sports Medicine compared different techniques for reconstructing anterior glenoid bone loss in cadaveric scapulae. The study tested three methods: suture-based bone block cerclage (BBC), suspensory suture button (SB), and screws. While screw fixation initially had higher compression, suture-based methods provided improved dynamic contact loading at the graft-glenoid interface. BBC fixation was similar to screws in biomechanical performance, but SB had lower primary fixation strength and more bone block movement. The clinical implications for healing remain uncertain, but suture-based methods may offer advantages in glenoid bone loss reconstruction.
