The study aimed to understand voice changes after uncomplicated thyroidectomy by analyzing the results of many patients from a single institute. The medical records of 2879 patients were reviewed, and their vocal status was assessed using various methods. The results showed that voice parameters and TVSQ scores significantly deteriorated until six months after surgery. The extent of thyroidectomy and neck dissection was associated with worse voice parameters and predictive of persistent voice symptoms. In addition, the TVSQ score was found to be significantly correlated with objective voice parameters.

A multicentre US study of 305 older adults undergoing advanced heart failure therapy found that health-related quality of life improved after heart transplantation and long-term mechanical circulatory support. Improvements were generally sustained through 24 months, although patients receiving long-term mechanical support had lower quality-of-life scores over time than those undergoing transplantation without pretransplant support.
