Pulmonary rehabilitation is associated with decreased exacerbation and mortality in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

A recent study in South Korea examined the impact of pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) on patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) from 2015 to 2019. The research revealed a gradual increase in PR implementation rates, notably after health insurance coverage began. Although PR incurred higher medical costs, it led to a decrease in COPD exacerbation rates and mortality. The study highlights the importance of improving PR implementation, as it significantly benefits COPD patients by reducing exacerbations and enhancing survival rates. Nonetheless, the overall adoption of PR remains suboptimal despite its well-documented advantages.
