Family caregivers play a crucial role in supporting individuals with mental illness yet face challenges affecting their quality of life (QoL). A multi-center survey on caregivers of schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, and bipolar disorder patients revealed that schizophrenia caregivers had poorer QoL. Sociodemographic factors had less impact on QoL when considering psychological aspects. Caregivers with lower self-esteem heightened psychological distress, and heavier care burdens experienced diminished QoL. Mediation model highlighted the significant influence of care burden on QoL, with self-esteem and psychological distress acting as mediators. Targeted interventions addressing caregivers' psychological well-being may alleviate care burden, ultimately enhancing their QoL.
