Quantitative fetal MRI with diffusion tensor imaging in cases with ‘short’ corpus callosum

Necker Hospital in Paris conducted a retrospective study on fetuses with a short corpus callosum (SCC) identified through sonography between January 2016 and December 2022. The study evaluated SCC using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and focused on distinguishing between SCC with Probst bundles (PB) and SCC without PB, as well as comparing both SCC groups to normal corpus callosum (CC) development. Results indicated that DTI metrics, specifically fractional anisotropy (FA) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), revealed significant differences in SCC with PB compared to normal CC, shedding light on potential WM microstructure alterations in SCC with PB, while isolated SCC without PB appeared more in line with a normal variant.
