Real-world outcomes of concomitant antidepressant and statin use in primary care patients with depression

A study has found that statins may improve antidepressant adherence in people with depression. The study analyzed data from over 670,000 people with depression and found that people who took both an antidepressant and a statin were less likely to discontinue their antidepressant treatment than people who only took an antidepressant. The people who took both an antidepressant and a statin were more likely to achieve remission from their depression. Overall, the study suggests that statins may be a helpful add-on treatment for people with depression who are struggling to adhere to their antidepressant medication.
