Reducing Poverty Could Sharply Cut U.S. Oral Health Burden

The study of 13,139 U.S. adults showed that reducing poverty, especially relative poverty, substantially lowers periodontitis, caries, and dental pain. A 50% relative poverty reduction may avert 5.4 million periodontitis and 3.8 million caries cases. Targeted estimations adjusted for demographics confirm significant public health gains, reinforcing the policy value of tackling income inequality to improve nationwide oral health equity.
