Relationship between dietary live microbe intake and the prevalence of COPD in adults

A cross-sectional study examined the association between dietary live microbes and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) prevalence in 9,791 participants aged 20 and over from the NHANES from 2013 to 2018. Logistic regression analysis showed that those in the high dietary live microbe group had a significantly lower risk of COPD than those in the low group (odds ratio [OR]: 0.614, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.474–0.795, p < 0.001). This inverse relationship was strongest in smokers, females, those aged 40-59 years, and non-obese individuals. The study suggests that a high intake of dietary live microbes may be linked to a lower prevalence of COPD, indicating a potential role for nutrition in respiratory health.
