Relationship between hypertension and smoking: A preliminary study in South Kashmiri population of J&K

A study aimed to investigate the association between smoking and cardiovascular disease (CVD). The study observed 304 patients visiting the outpatient department for health check-ups. The results showed that 90% of male subjects and 75% of female subjects were smokers across different age groups. These findings suggest that a majority of the subjects, including males, were at risk of developing CVD. Smoking was found to have acute and chronic effects on blood pressure, leading to hypertension and increased susceptibility to severe forms of hypertension. It is crucial to emphasize smoking cessation measures to prevent CVD and manage blood pressure effectively in this population.
