Relationship between Parkinson’s disease and cardio-cerebrovascular diseases

The study employed Mendelian randomization to investigate the connection between Parkinson's disease (PD) and cardio-cerebrovascular diseases. Analyzing genetic data from a genome-wide association study (GWAS) on 482,730 individuals, the study found that PD was associated with a higher risk of coronary artery disease (OR = 1.055) and stroke (OR = 1.039), including subgroups like ischemic stroke and cardioembolic stroke. No significant evidence was found for a relationship between PD and other cardio-cerebrovascular diseases. This study suggested a link between PD and an increased risk of specific cardiovascular and cerebrovascular conditions.
