In a study called DELIVER, researchers investigated the effects of dapagliflozin, a medication used to treat heart failure (HF), on patients hospitalized or recently hospitalized for HF. The study included 654 patients who had been recently hospitalized, and they had lower baseline kidney function compared to those without recent hospitalization. Dapagliflozin consistently reduced the risk of hospitalizations related to all causes, cardiac issues, and HF, regardless of a recent hospitalization. The medication had minimal impact on blood pressure and did not increase the occurrence of serious kidney or hypovolemic adverse events. The findings suggest that initiating dapagliflozin in stabilized patients recently hospitalized for HF is beneficial with a favorable risk-to-benefit ratio.
