Replacing the body mass index with the sagittal abdominal diameter (abdominal height)

The study investigated a new way to assess cardiometabolic risk beyond traditional BMI measurements. Sagittal Abdominal Diameter (SAD), a measure of abdominal height when lying down, is linked to visceral fat accumulation, a key indicator of conditions like insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. Studies suggest that the SAD/height ratio (SADHtR) may outperform BMI and waist circumference in predicting cardiometabolic risks. This inexpensive measurement could revolutionize our approach to assessing and managing cardiometabolic risk.
