A clinical trial investigated the use of mirabegron, a β3-adrenergic receptor agonist, in preventing the progression of left ventricular hypertrophy and diastolic dysfunction in patients with pre- or mild heart failure (HF). Over 12 months, 296 participants were randomly assigned to receive mirabegron or a placebo. The results showed that mirabegron had a neutral effect on left ventricular mass and diastolic function. Although adverse events were reported, no deaths occurred during the trial. This research suggests that mirabegron may not be effective in preventing the transition to overt HF in patients with structural heart disease and mild HF symptoms.
