Retained Products of Conception (RPOC): Diagnosis, Complication & Management

Retained products of conception (RPOC) can arise after pregnancy termination or delivery, causing symptoms like vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain, and pelvic discomfort. If left untreated, it can lead to severe complications such as intrauterine adhesions and subfertility. Diagnosis is typically supported by ultrasonography, often with color Doppler, and may involve uterine vasculature assessment for arteriovenous malformations. While conventional management involves dilation and suction curettage, alternative approaches like expectant management, uterine artery embolization, and hysteroscopic resection of RPOC have demonstrated efficacy.
