This study aimed to investigate changes in retinal sensitivity before and after surgery in patients with fovea-on retinal detachment (RD). Thirteen patients with fovea-on RD and a healthy control eye were evaluated. OCT scans were obtained before surgery, and microperimetry was used to assess retinal sensitivity at different locations. Follow-up examinations were conducted at 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months postoperatively. The study found that retinal sensitivity loss was greatest inside the RD before surgery and decreased linearly towards the RD border. Postoperatively, the greatest sensitivity loss shifted to outside the RD and gradually decreased. The study concluded that retinal damage extends beyond the detached retina, but both attached and detached retina showed postoperative recovery.
