Return to Sport After Posterior Spinal Fusion in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis: A Systematic Review and Clinical Recommendations

This systematic review of 722 adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis evaluates return to sport (RTS) after posterior spinal fusion (PSF). Most patients resumed sports within 8–12 months, though timing and performance varied. Delays were linked to older age, larger curves, longer fusions, distal levels, and psychosocial factors. Some transitioned to noncompetitive or noncontact sports. Findings highlight the need for individualized, evidence-based guidelines to optimize RTS and rehabilitation after PSF in AIS patients.
