Return to work following revision knee arthroplasty in patients under 65 years of age

This retrospective study delves into the employment outcomes of patients of working age who underwent revision total knee arthroplasty (RTKA). Over a 14-year period, 132 RTKA procedures were performed in 113 patients at an NHS institution. Of these patients, 53% were employed before surgery, and 61% successfully returned to work at a median of 12 weeks post-surgery. Interestingly, the study found that patients who returned to work had higher pre-operative Oxford Knee Scores (OKS) and achieved greater mean improvement. However, 7 patients who did not return to work expressed an intention to do so. The findings offer some reassurance for patients considering RTKA regarding their employment prospects.
