Revision or Primary Total Hip Arthroplasty: Which Is Better for Quality of Life and Physical Activity?

This study aimed to compare physical activity (PA) and health-related quality of life (HR-QoL) in patients 1-3 years after revision or primary total hip arthroplasty (THA), and to examine the relationship between measured PA and HR-QoL. The cross-sectional study included 64 patients who underwent revision THA and 188 who underwent primary THA 1-3 years earlier. Results showed that light PA, number of steps, and HR-QoL scores were significantly lower in patients after revision THA than after primary THA. Moderate-to-vigorous intensity PA did not differ between groups. The study suggests that increasing time and frequency spent on light PA after revision THA may lead to an increase in overall PA levels.
